memories of labour

Throughout the valleys of South Wales where once great industries covered the landscape, all that remains are memorials to the places and the people who worked in them.

This project concentrated on the Rhymney Valley, Sirhowy Valley and Ebbw Vale and covered subjects as diverse as a memorial to the great Labour politician Aunerin Bevan between Ebbw Vale and Tredegar, down the valleys - past the sites of collieries and steel works, along the long past railway lines to the docks at Newport and Cardiff.

Many of these memorials go un-noticed by the general public, with only dog walkers and teenage drinkers ever noticing their existence. This project started as a way of ensuring that the memory of what made the valleys great was not forgotten.
